Materials & Care

Each piece of our jewelry is made by hand in my home in Nevada. I believe in sourcing locally whenever possible. It’s a way to invest in my community, nurture lasting relationships, and stay closely connected to the hands and hearts behind the materials I use.

What metals do you work with?

I work with a variety of metals to complete my designs.

I use bead caps, ear wires, earrings, findings and jump rings that are formed in the USA from imported brass, pewter, stainless steel and plated in the USA with imported precious metals.

Businesses I work with are Nunn Design & TierraCast which are US-based manufacturers of lead-free, high-quality metal findings, including beads, charms, and other jewelry components.

“Gold-filled” is a USA industry standard that involves pressure bonding multiple layers of solid 14k gold with extreme heat over a core of high quality jeweler’s brass resulting in a durable, high quality real gold product.

925 sterling silver: This is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper.

What beads do you work with?

Miyuki Beads. Miyuki was founded in Hiroshima, and quickly became a renowned glass seed bead manufacturer. They are considered a world standard for their brilliance, uniform shape, and color

Dakota Stones. The manufactures of the only branded line of gemstone beads in the world. They work directly with stone cutters to ensure their beads meet strict standards. That means good color and pattern, perfectly round rounds, consistent size in each bead, and laser-drilled holes. It also means they know that all of their beads are produced by fairly paid workers in safe conditions.

How do I care for my jewelry?

I believe jewelry is meant to be worn every day, and pieces are made to last.

I do recommend taking off your jewelry when swimming, showering, gardening, doing contact sports, and moving heavy objects.

Avoid exposing jewelry to shampoo or other beauty care products like hair spray, hair dyes, spray tan, lotions or perfumes.

To clean your natural gemstones, simply wipe them clean with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse in harsh chemicals, or use ultrasonic cleaners.

Store your jewelry in a safe place like a pouch, box or lined jewelry case.

How should I store my Fringe Earrings?

Gravity is your Fringe Earrings best friend. Let them hang or lie flat.

Hypoallergenic Jewelry

What Metals are People Allergic To?

People can be allergic to any metal, but one of the most common skin allergies is to nickel. This is partly because nickel is used in so many things, including jewelry, cell phones, coins, zippers, eyeglass frames, belt buckles and keys.

Other metal culprits can include RAW brass and copper. Sometimes metal alloys, which contain a mixture of two or more metallic elements, can trigger a similar reaction.

What does Hypoallergenic Jewelry mean?

"Hypoallergenic" means "below normal" or "slightly" allergenic. Jewelry that has been classified as hypoallergenic means it contains little to no potentially irritating alloys. Hypoallergenic jewelry is created using components made from metals such as fine gold/silver, niobium, stainless steel and titanium.

Are your metals safe?

Yes! I strive to source the best quality metal findings for my customers that are lead & nickel free.

Nunn Design findings are nickel free and plated in the USA with precious imported metals; 24k gold and .999 silver.

Ear wires are either stainless steel or plaited with 24k gold and .999 silver.
